Feast with Wisdom

International Sunday School Lesson June 28, 2020 Summer #4

Proverbs 9:1-6 Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. (2) She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. (3) She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, (4) “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, (5) “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. (6) Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.”

Proverbs 9:8-10 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. (9) Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. (10) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:13-18 Folly is an unruly woman; she is simple and knows nothing. (14) She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, (15) calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way, (16) “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, (17) “Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” (18) But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.

Value of Wisdom

International Sunday School Lesson June 14 Summer Quarter #2

Proverbs 2:1-11 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, (2) turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding– (3) indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, (4) and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, (5) then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. (6) For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (7) He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, (8) for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. (9) Then you will understand what is right and just and fair–every good path. (10) For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. (11) Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

Solomon Seeks God’s Blessing

International Sunday School Lesson January 19, 2020 Winter Quarter #8

1 Kings 8:22-30 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven [23] and said: “LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. [24] You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it—as it is today. [25] “Now LORD, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me faithfully as you have done.’ [26] And now, God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David my father come true. [27] “But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built! [28] Yet give attention to your servant’s prayer and his plea for mercy, LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day. [29] May your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, this place of which you said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place. [30] Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.

1 Kings 8:52-53 “May your eyes be open to your servant’s plea and to the plea of your people Israel, and may you listen to them whenever they cry out to you. [53] For you singled them out from all the nations of the world to be your own inheritance, just as you declared through your servant Moses when you, Sovereign LORD, brought our ancestors out of Egypt.”

Solomon Speaks to the People

International Sunday School January 12, 2020 Winter Quarter #7

1 Kings 8:14-21 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them. [15] Then he said: “Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, [16] ‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’ [17] “My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. [18] But the LORD said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. [19] Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’ [20] “The LORD has kept the promise he made: I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. [21] I have provided a place there for the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD that he made with our ancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.”

Obedient Faith

International Sunday School October 6, 2019 Fall #6

Deuteronomy 4:1-8  “And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the rules that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.  (2)  You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you.  (3)  Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at Baal-peor, for the LORD your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor.  (4)  But you who held fast to the LORD your God are all alive today.  (5)  See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.  (6)  Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’  (7)  For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the LORD our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?  (8)  And what great nation is there, that has statutes and rules so righteous as all this law that I set before you today?

Deuteronomy 4:12-13  Then the LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of words, but saw no form; there was only a voice.  (13)  And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments, and he wrote them on two tablets of stone.

God’s Blessing

International Sunday School Lesson November 25, 2018

Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb. (23) She conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” (24) And she called his name Joseph, saying, “May the LORD add to me another son!” (25) As soon as Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own home and country. (26) Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, that I may go, for you know the service that I have given you.” (27) But Laban said to him, “If I have found favor in your sight, I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you. (28) Name your wages, and I will give it.” (29) Jacob said to him, “You yourself know how I have served you, and how your livestock has fared with me. (30) For you had little before I came, and it has increased abundantly, and the LORD has blessed you wherever I turned. But now when shall I provide for my own household also?” (31) He said, “What shall I give you?” Jacob said, “You shall not give me anything. If you will do this for me, I will again pasture your flock and keep it: (32) let me pass through all your flock today, removing from it every speckled and spotted sheep and every black lamb, and the spotted and speckled among the goats, and they shall be my wages.

Genesis 30:22-32

Thus the man increased greatly and had large flocks, female servants and male servants, and camels and donkeys.
