God’s Kingdom Will Be All in All

International Sunday School Lesson August 27 2023

Background

  • 1 Corinthians 15:12 ESV  Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
  • JFB — Christ’s resurrection rests on the evidence of many eye-witnesses, including Paul himself, and is the great fact preached as the groundwork of the Gospel: they who deny the resurrection in general, must deny that of Christ, and the consequence of the latter will be, that Christian preaching and faith are vain.

Firstfruits

1 Corinthians 15:20 (ESV) But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

  • Colossians 1:18 (ESV) And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

In Adam All Die

1 Corinthians 15:21-22 (ESV) For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. [22] For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

  • Genesis 2:16-17 (ESV) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, [17] but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Own Order

1 Corinthians 15:23-24 (ESV) But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. [24] Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.

  • Isaiah 26:19 (ESV) Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.

Death Destroyed

1 Corinthians 15:25-26 (ESV) For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. [26] The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

  • Hebrews 10:12-13 (ESV) But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, [13] waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.

Subjection

1 Corinthians 15:27-28 (ESV) For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. [28] When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

  • 1 Peter 3:22 (ESV) who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.

Conclusion

Jesus has risen and proof of our future resurrection.
