A New Home

International Sunday School Lesson August 7 2022 Lesson #10

Revelation 21:1-9 NIV  Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.  (2)  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  (3)  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  (4)  ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”  (5)  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”  (6)  He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.  (7)  Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.  (8)  But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”  (9)  One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

Revelation 21:1-9 NIV

The Word Gives Peace

International Sunday School Lesson July 31 2022

John 14:15-29 NIV  “If you love me, keep my commands.  (16)  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—  (17)  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.  (18)  I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.  (19)  Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.  (20)  On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.  (21)  Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”  (22)  Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”  (23)  Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.  (24)  Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.  (25)  “All this I have spoken while still with you.  (26)  But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.  (27)  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  (28)  “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.  (29)  I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.

The Word Resurrects

International Sunday School July 24 2022

John 11:17-27 NIV  On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.  (18)  Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem,  (19)  and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother.  (20)  When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.  (21)  “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died.  (22)  But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”  (23)  Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”  (24)  Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”  (25)  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;  (26)  and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”  (27)  “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

John 11:17-27 NIV

John 11:38-44 NIV  Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.  (39)  “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”  (40)  Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”  (41)  So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.  (42)  I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”  (43)  When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”  (44)  The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

The Word Saves

International Sunday School Lesson July 17 2022

John 12:44-50 NIV  Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.  (45)  The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.  (46)  I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.  (47)  “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.  (48)  There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.  (49)  For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.  (50)  I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

John 12:44-50 NIV

The Word Heals

International Sunday School Lesson July 10 2022  Summer Quarter #6

John 4:46-54 NIV  Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.  (47)  When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.  (48)  “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”  (49)  The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”  (50)  “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.  (51)  While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.  (52)  When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”  (53)  Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.  (54)  This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.
