Salvation Available for All

International Sunday School August 1, 2021 Summer Quarter #9

Romans 10:5-15 NIV  Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”  (6)  But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?'” (that is, to bring Christ down)  (7)  “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?'” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).  (8)  But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:  (9)  If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  (10)  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  (11)  As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”  (12)  For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  (13)  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  (14)  How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  (15)  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Peace with God

International Sunday School July 25, 2021 Summer #8

Romans 5:1-11 NIV  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  (2)  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.  (3)  Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  (4)  perseverance, character; and character, hope.  (5)  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.  (6)  You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  (7)  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.  (8)  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  (9)  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!  (10)  For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!  (11)  Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Romans 5:1-11 NIV

Faith of Abraham

International Sunday School July 18 2021 Summer Quarter Lesson #7

Romans 4:1-12 (NIV) What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter?  (2)  If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God.  (3)  What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”  (4)  Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation.  (5)  However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.  (6)  David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:  (7)  “Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.  (8)  Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”  (9)  Is this blessedness only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness.  (10)  Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!  (11)  And he received circumcision as a sign, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.  (12)  And he is then also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

Power of the Gospel

International Sunday School July 11 2021 Lesson #6

Romans 1:8-17  (NIV) First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.  (9)  God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you  (10)  in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.  (11)  I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—  (12)  that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.  (13)  I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.  (14)  I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.  (15)  That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.  (16)  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.  (17)  For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
