1 Samuel 19:1-7 Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. But Jonathan had taken a great liking to David (2) and warned him, “My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding and stay there. (3) I will go out and stand with my father in the field where you are. I’ll speak to him about you and will tell you what I find out.” (4) Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, “Let not the king do wrong to his servant David; he has not wronged you, and what he has done has benefited you greatly. (5) He took his life in his hands when he killed the Philistine. The LORD won a great victory for all Israel, and you saw it and were glad. Why then would you do wrong to an innocent man like David by killing him for no reason?” (6) Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath: “As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be put to death.” (7) So Jonathan called David and told him the whole conversation. He brought him to Saul, and David was with Saul as before.
Genesis 45:1-8 Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. (2) And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it. (3) Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence. (4) Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! (5) And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. (6) For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. (7) But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. (8) “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.
Genesis 45:10-15 You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me–you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. (11) I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’ (12) “You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you. (13) Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.” (14) Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. (15) And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.
Genesis 42:6-25a(NIV) Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. (7) As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where do you come from?” he asked. “From the land of Canaan,” they replied, “to buy food.” (8) Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him. (9) Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected.” (10) “No, my lord,” they answered. “Your servants have come to buy food. (11) We are all the sons of one man. Your servants are honest men, not spies.” (12) “No!” he said to them. “You have come to see where our land is unprotected.” (13) But they replied, “Your servants were twelve brothers, the sons of one man, who lives in the land of Canaan. The youngest is now with our father, and one is no more.” (14) Joseph said to them, “It is just as I told you: You are spies! (15) And this is how you will be tested: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here. (16) Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!” (17) And he put them all in custody for three days. (18) On the third day, Joseph said to them, “Do this and you will live, for I fear God: (19) If you are honest men, let one of your brothers stay here in prison, while the rest of you go and take grain back for your starving households. (20) But you must bring your youngest brother to me, so that your words may be verified and that you may not die.” This they proceeded to do. (21) They said to one another, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress has come on us.” (22) Reuben replied, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.” (23) They did not realize that Joseph could understand them, since he was using an interpreter. (24) He turned away from them and began to weep, but then came back and spoke to them again. He had Simeon taken from them and bound before their eyes. (25) Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to put each man’s silver back in his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. …
Genesis 41:25-33 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. (26) The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads of grain are seven years; it is one and the same dream. (27) The seven lean, ugly cows that came up afterward are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain scorched by the east wind: They are seven years of famine. (28) “It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do. (29) Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt, (30) but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will ravage the land. (31) The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe. (32) The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon. (33) “And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt.
Genesis 41:37-40 The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. (38) So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?” (39) Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. (40) You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”
Genesis 41:50-52 Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. (51) Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” (52) The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”
